The Irish Experience

June 10, 2008

Aer Lingus

300 Jericho Quadrangle, Suite 130

Jericho, NY 11753

Dear Aer Lingus Representative:

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the way Aer Lingus handled the rebooking of the flight that my husband and I missed as a result of our connecting flight being delayed. Below are the flight details:

Passengers:   X and Y

Flight No:      108

From:           JFK

To:              DUB

Date & Time: Thursday, May 22nd 2008, 9:40 pm

When I booked my trip to Dublin on February 10, 2008 Aer Lingus had no partnership with JetBlue, hence I had to book two separate trips to get from Syracuse, NY to JFK, and from JFK to Dublin. We took JetBlue Flight 75 from SYR to JFK on Thursday, May 22nd 2008 at 5:15 pm. For reasons unknown to us the JetBlue flight was considerably delayed causing us to arrive at the Aer Lingus terminal a few minutes past the gate’s closing. The Aer Lingus representative present at the ticket desk was very unfriendly and refused to help us with either getting us on the flight or with rebooking.

When I called the Aer Lingus customer service the next day, I was told I have to pay $306 per person in order to rebook my flight. While I understand that Aer Lingus is not responsible for the delay of JetBlue airlines, I am appalled at the lack of understanding and sympathy on Aer Lingus’ part. Not only did we have to pay over $200 for an airport hotel, but it also cost us $612 to be on the flight we probably wouldn’t have missed if your representative was willing to help us. I believe Aer Lingus took advantage of our vulnerable position by charging us an unreasonably high rebooking fee that was well over 50% of the value of the entire round trip ticket.

Given this situation, it is difficult for us to get excited about our long awaited “Irish experience,” as it is hard to recommend your airlines to our family and friends. I sincerely hope that you will reconsider, on behalf of Aer Lingus, those unfortunate circumstances and reimburse us for the rebooking fee. Your help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

X
